Epilepsy Namibia’s Awareness Agama, a rock lizard, has escaped!

Once upon a time an Agama, who lives in Parliament Gardens in Windhoek saw a group of people gathering. He heard them talk about epilepsy and seizures and the stigma and discrimination people with epilepsy have to deal with.

As he was sitting on his rock in the sun he was thinking how strange people were.
These people looked the same as all the other people who visit the gardens but the stories they tell make no sense. Why are people scared of those with epilepsy? Why may they not learn, work and play with the others?

He decided to go and ask them and crept a little closer.

But when the people saw him so close they jumped up and ran away and said he was scary. This made him sad. He was just a lizard like all other lizards – if only they knew more about him they would understand him better and not be scared anymore.

Then he knew what to do. He would go close to everybody to make them used to him and then he would tell them about epilepsy … and that is what he has been doing ever since.

In the new year when the people with epilepsy came back to the gardens, the agama was gone.

We think he has gone on a fact finding mission about epilepsy as he is very keen to know more, but we miss and need him.

Our newspapers and radio stations are helping us to look for him but if you find him on your screen or somewhere else, please give him advice and return him to us in Windhoek as he is needs to come and tell all the people about epilepsy on the 1st International Epilepsy Day on 9 February 2015.
